Everyone loves a mix of colours in their egg box, and adding a Copper Maran Hybrid which lays chocolate brown eggs to your egg selection really does add something a little bit special to your egg box. Our dark brown chocolate brown egg layers have very slightly feathered feet, not too many that they get in the way, just enough to let you know who they are. Usually the feathers can be seen down the leg, not so much on the actual feet, so the muddy ground doesn't affect them.

Their feathers are a rich, dark blacky brown, with a wonderful greeny blue sheen to them that really glistens in the sunlight. These are truly stunning birds and definately one to add to you flock if you can.

Egg colour is chocolate brown, a fairly dark brown. The eggs get darker from 6 months of age onwards, then from about 3 years old you start to lose the darkness.

You can expect approx. 240 eggs per year, less than usual, but worth it - see egg selection and spot the chocolate one.

Your hen may start to lay at around 20 weeks old, she will be laying at 50% capacity by the time she is 26 weeks old, and will be at full laying capacity at around 32 weeks old. (this is later than other standard birds)
