Product Description

Our Gold point-of-lay (POL) Silkie hens are now available to reserve and collect now. These fully vaccinated silkie hens are a stunning choice for any small bantam flock, with their eye-catching golden plumage and gentle disposition. Typically, they will begin laying creamy eggs at around 24 weeks of age.

For a smoother transition when bringing new hens home, we highly recommend getting a poultry drink, something similar to this, (available on Amazon - or your local pet shop), when purchasing pure-breed chickens. Moving to a new home and flock can be stressful, and using a drink like this can make a real difference in helping them settle in by giving them a boost of energy and vitamins.

What We Offer

  • Breed: Gold Silkie – admired for their soft, golden feathers and friendly temperament.
  • Point-of-Lay Hens: Fully vaccinated, healthy, and ready to settle into your flock.
  • Temperament: Calm and sociable, making them well-suited to small, harmonious bantam flocks.

Why Choose Gold Silkie Hens?

  • Egg Production: Laying fewer but beautiful creamy eggs, Gold Silkies are an elegant and practical addition to your flock.
  • Broody Nature: Their strong maternal instincts make them excellent mothers for hatching their own eggs or those of other poultry.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: With their striking golden feathering and fluffy crests, Gold Silkies add both charm and uniqueness to your setup.

Care Instructions for Gold Silkie Hens

  • Housing Requirements: Dry, draught-free housing is essential, as their feathers are not water-resistant. Provide low perches for their limited flying ability.
  • Outdoor Tolerance: While hardy in cold weather, Gold Silkies dislike wet conditions. Ensure outdoor runs are covered and well-drained to keep them dry and comfortable.
  • Feeding: Growers' pellets are suitable until 18 weeks, after which they can transition to layers' pellets to support egg production. Fresh greens and treats can be given occasionally.

Important Information

  • Flock Compatibility: Best kept with other bantams, as Silkies are gentle and may be bullied by larger or more assertive breeds.
  • Vaccination: All hens are fully vaccinated, ensuring they are healthy and ready for their new home.
  • Group Size: Keeping Silkies in groups of at least three is recommended to ensure social happiness.
