Product Description

The Miniature Silver Appleyard duck hatching eggs are sold in boxes of 6, or 12, and can be posted anywhere in the UK (£4P+P) or then can be collected from our smallholding just outside of Brighton, at Lewes, We also sell live miniature appleyard ducklings from April 2023 onwards.

This duck is a relatively new breed, it didn't exist as a miniature until the 19080's, when waterfowl breeder Tom Bartlett took the standard Silver Appleyard and made it much smaller, these miniatures are about a 1/3 of the size of a fully grown bird.

As well as being good looking it is also a hardy and lively breed and a good layer. Although obviously a small carcass, as a table bird it is meaty and compact so it is useful for back yard or smallholding purposes. However, here, we sell them really as a cute garden duck, that is relatively quiet, is kind to the garden, (It will still have a munch on smaller plants), but it does like to forage on slugs and snails which keeps the numbers of those pests down. They are good and determined sitters and love to raise a family so if its eggs you want, you'll need to be strict about collecting every day, otherwise they will go broody easily. That said, they are ideal if you are looking to rear your own ducks, as they will look after the ducklings for you. The male Miniature Silver Appleyards are much gentler to the females than some of our other ducks here, whilst we recommend a breeding trio as a duck set up, these ducks are the only breed we would suggest that you may be able to keep as just a pair.

The drake has a black green head with a silver white flecked throat which has a silver ring around it. Under the neck it is claret to silver under the body and laced claret along the back. The rump is solid black green and the wings have blue tips. The female duck is much plainer, with her silver white head and neck and creamy white underbody and she also sports blue tipped wings. The male is very quiet, the female is only noisy when she wants feeding.... You absolutely can keep two males together without any ladies, if you would rather have quiet, and are not worried about getting any eggs.

You can collect these hatching eggs free of charge from BN8 6JD - please select the collection option if you would like to do this. We can usually have your eggs ready for collection within 24 hours, sometimes sooner. Alternatively, we post these Duck Hatching Eggs anywhere in the UK, although please do be aware that once they have been through the postal system that the eggs will have been shaken and vibrated at the sorting office, and these does wildly affect successful hatching rates. We tend to get 80% hatching rate on collected eggs, this falls to about 60% on eggs that have been posted.

Fully incubation instructions will be sent with the eggs.

We will send your eggs out as soon as we possibly can but do need to fit the post office visit around caring for the animals here - we will only send the freshest eggs available - please allow a minimum of 24-48 hours for your eggs to be dispatched.
