Product Description

Our Sablepoot point-of-lay (POL) hens are now available to reserve and collect from 1st February 2025. These stunning bantams, also known as Booted Bantams, are a true delight, combining unique feathered legs with gentle temperaments. At 17–18 weeks old, these hens are fully vaccinated and ready to join your flock. They will typically begin laying their small, creamy eggs at around 24 weeks of age.

What We Offer

  • Breed: Sablepoot (Booted Bantam) – renowned for their feathered legs, vibrant colouring, and calm nature.
  • Point-of-Lay Hens: Fully vaccinated and healthy, these hens are ready to thrive in your small flock.
  • Colour Varieties: Choose from Millefleur and Lemon Millefleur, with customers selecting their preferred colour upon collection.

Why Choose Sablepoot Hens?

  • Ornamental Appeal: Their striking feathered legs, combined with stunning Millefleur or Lemon Millefleur plumage, make Sablepoots a standout in any flock.
  • Egg Production: While their eggs are small, Sablepoots are consistent layers, producing up to 160 eggs annually.
  • Gentle Temperament: Perfect for families and backyard keepers, these hens are friendly, calm, and integrate well with other bantams.

Care Instructions for Sablepoot Hens

  • Housing Requirements: Dry, clean coops are essential to protect their feathered legs from damage or infection. Low perches and well-ventilated housing are ideal.
  • Outdoor Tolerance: Sablepoots are hardy but require dry outdoor runs, as their feathered legs are prone to soiling in wet or muddy conditions.
  • Feeding: Keep them on growers' pellets until 18 weeks, then transition to layers' pellets as they approach laying age. Supplement with fresh greens and grains as treats.

Important Information

  • Flock Compatibility: Sablepoots thrive in small flocks and are best kept with other bantams due to their gentle nature.
  • Vaccination: All hens are fully vaccinated, ensuring they arrive healthy and ready for your flock.
  • Group Size: We recommend keeping Sablepoots in groups of at least three to ensure social happiness.
