Day-Old Meat Chicks – Community Availability - From time to time, we make meat chicks available to our local chicken-keeping and self-sufficiency community. This is very much a goodwill gesture, not a profit-making venture, and it allows small producers to buy sensible numbers (usually 5–15 birds) without needing to place a large commercial hatchery order.
Our next batch is ready for 1st May - can collect 1st or 2nd of May ONLY ... And birds must be PREORDERED...
Ross / Cornish-type birds - These are the fast-growing, big white meat birds many people will recognise from YouTube and commercial poultry systems. They grow quickly and efficiently and suit those looking for a traditional meat bird on a shorter timeline.
The important (but friendly) bit - These chicks are sold at cost price. We don’t make any profit on them at all, no matter how many you order. They exist purely to support the local chicken-keeping community and, hopefully, earn us a few future recommendations on the socials if you see someone asks where to buy ducks or point-of-lay hens (where we do sell for profit)
They are collection only — no delivery, no couriers, no chick Uber - and you need to bring a small box when you collect and be in and out.
Because it does still cost us to bring them in, house them, heat them, feed them, bed them, answer messages about them, and generally keep them happy until collection, a mandatory contribution is required which is a flat fee of £10 per order - whether you order 10 or 200.
So the first x10 cost £1.50 x 10 chicks, = £15.00 + £10 flat fee = £25.00 (£2.50 per chick)
If you want x20 chicks it's £1.50 x 20 = £30 + £10 flat fee = £40 (£2 per chick)
Collection timeframe - As these chicks are part of a goodwill, at-cost offering, we’re only able to hold them for up to 48 hours after arrival.
For comparison, if you were collecting directly from a hatchery, you’d typically be given a one-hour collection window — take it or leave it. When birds are sold at full commercial price, that includes profit and paid care time, which allows for longer holding periods.
In this case, we’re doing our best to help small producers by absorbing costs and offering flexibility, but we kindly ask that collection is prompt. This helps keep chicks healthy and allows us to continue offering this service to the community.
